    5. Note the words "looks like". And perhaps it's you who needs to "think before you leap" into reviving topics that are almost a year old...?

    6. when you make comments like that Mohawk that to anybody else reading it would jump to the conclusion that you were having a go at Mel as I did ,and so what if I revived an old topic ....Oh look I just revived it again!!

I love, love my machine got it went it was first aired, loved the tip with the sheet of acetate to cut an image without a solid line can't wait to try that one. Question. You have said we can use tattered lace dies by scanning the stencil can you please tell me the best way to do this please I could see it being very useful for corners to start with just one pass instead of 4, been looking at svg files on Birds cards, wow wow wow can not wait to get back into my craft room to try for so many things, wish I didn't have to go out tonight going to miss the rest of your shows you are so inspiring thank you Mel. Also as much as I love your Brother shows is there any chance you'll be doing anymore shows using the Copic pens as I loved those shows too. 12. Hi Mel
Can i just say you don't download Canvas its an online cloud based software programme as far as i am aware. you may have created a shortcut to the website but its not a programme that you download. It is great for converting SVG files but there are some that won't work at first but I've done tutorials on how to make them work on my Youtube channel applelover53 or my blog www.aandhcrafts.wordpress.com

  13. Hi Mel. I've noticed the little black square under the USB port. I carefully removed this cover and there is another connectible port! Maybe a printer or PC connector port??? Is this machine going to be like the cameo where you can hook up to a PC? Brother wouldn't of put it there for no reason so I was wondering if its a secret for the future and that something special will come out soon?

  14. Hi Mel. The Birdscard website is fantastic. I have a question. I've already converted the SVG files I wanted on the Canvas and have used the Santa hat card which is cute :) I have also downloaded from the same site some lovely sentiments. They are in GIF format not SVG. I want to take them into Canvas as I think they would look gorgeous when using the drawn function, and could be drawn onto the actual card as some are shaped so would spoil if printed then cut out. Any ideas?

  15. Hi Bev
If you look on Johns blog he has instructions on how to use different file types in canvas...I. Am only using SVG s until I get braver!

  16. hi mel, birds files are fantastic she's such a genorous lady, thanks for pointing us in the direction of misskatescuttables, another fantastic site and the prices are unbelievable, she almost gives them away

  17. Wish I'd NEVER spent my money on my Scan N Cut! EVERY item I scan in it doesn't pick up all the lines. John had suggested to me to scan in my sentiments as I was asking you the other day about them being in GIF format. GIF doesn't work so he suggested scanning. Even using the bold type sentiments off birdscards it was useless. I printed them on best quality but it was a complete waste of time. I've tried scanning other things and still the same results each time. I've taken the panel off the scanner and wiped gently with a dry soft cloth but that's not helped 1 bit. I've used the grey scaling tab and taken it all the way to the left so the scanner will detect paler lines but that's not help either! I remember watching John scan something in that was yellow and it picked it up so i'm wondering if mine is a faulty 1? So wish I could just send it back and get my money back. I've been onto the brother website and there's an email to send to if you have problems, but now I can't even find my invoice/receipt that came with my box :(

  18. So sorry for my rant Mel. I'm just so so upset with it

    ReplyDelete
  19. Hi Bev
Don't be sorry...It sounds to me like you have a faulty machine. Your machine will have a serial number. If you go in to the tools section and go to page 5 then you will find that number.
You then need to contact brother and explain the issues you are having and they will deal with it for you.
If you have any problems with this then let me know. My direct email is melanieheaton@netscape.net
Please keep me up to date with your progress.
    Take care

  22. Hi Jan
I get mine from Steph which is craft channel productions.

  23. Hi Mel, can you go through the doeflex instructions again, as I thought I heard you say to cut the pattern out twice, why is that? and do I stick the two pieces of doeflex together? Thanks in advance for your help. Liz Spooner.xx

    ReplyDelete
  24. You need to cut two sheets of Doeflex exactly the same and stick them together. I use stick and spray. Using two sheets creates a deeper impression as it creates a deeper space for the card to be pressed in to.
If you need any more help...just ask. Xxx

  28. I'm So Incredibly envious of all you peeps with scan n cuts cos I can't afford one right now however ,one day, one day and then I will take over the world!!!! But really, Mel I have a question for you, I have a sillouette portrait at the moment but I'm not having a lot of success especially with intricate cuts and I get a lot of ripping but if I go to a lighter setting and cut twice ,I still get hairy edges Please help ,Love Paul

  29. Hi Mel. can you help please, I've had my scan n cut for a couple of months now and I love it, it worked perfectly for a while and then for some reason it stopped cutting through the whole pattern, i bought new blades and mats and checked and re-checked all my settings but nothing seems to help, also it won't cut through very thin card or paper and of late i have a job getting my screen to work and have to turn it on and off a couple of times, also when i try and click something on the screen it picks up the wrong image and it's all very frustrating. please can you tell me if it's something i'm doing wrong or could it be a faulty machine. thanks Mel.

  30. Hi Mel, I bought the Scan and Cut after watching you on all 4 of the days of your wonderful demos on Create and Craft. Now I am trying to figure out why every time I try to download anything I get a message up saying Unable to access the server. I have to assume that I have to convert (somehow!!!!) .svg files before I can use them on the Scan n'Cut - or am I wrong? So far I have not exactly had a lot of success with my machine, but don't know where to turn for help. I also have a Cricut Expressions but thought this looked so much better with having a scanner and a USB port, but Brother just seem to want customers to ring them on their premium rate phone numbers - something I will not do!
You are so inspiring, I really want to conquer my machine and start getting some real fun out of it. Love your demos!

    1. Hi
I think the server is your internet connection. Please contact me at melanieheaton@netscape.net and we can sort this out for you.xxx

  31. Hi Mel, After playing around for 4 days, I have finally conquered the conversion of SVG files, and thought this might be of help to your enquirers on how to do it.
    Using SVG Files.
Download the file you want to save then computer will put the file into your Download box. First of all go to zipped file and extract all data (there is usually an ‘extract’ option when you right click on the mouse if you have it on a zipped file). This will then be saved either to ‘download’ area of your computer if you specify drive C, (the main area) , or to a flash drive if you prefer to go direct into that (this will usually have a letter E, F or G to signify it is a temporary flash drive with a memory stick in it) . You will then sometimes see multiple types of files, and you need to delete all the others that are not SVG files, leaving only the SVG file in the original. That is the easy bit!

To convert SVG files to .FCM files which are the only ones which will work with Scan n’Cut.
    Log into Canvas.
Go into New Project. Click on SVG icon. On Import page Choose .SVG file from flash drive or from downloads (wherever you have downloaded the original to) Click on relevant file which will insert the picture into the mat. Now, repeat if there are more than one files in the original (but now un- zipped) file, then, when all is complete, Click on Download. Choose Print Target as. Add the letter of the drive your flash memory stick is inserted into, and then add a file name. Click on Save. Click on Close. Then go into new Project. Click on Leave this Page. Then you click onto another New project if there are other files you wish to convert and save. Sometimes some of the individual files are large drawings, so I just reduced them in size so that the whole lot can be fitted onto one mat, as they can be increased again at a later stage but for this download/conversion exercise it helps to have the whole of one project in one file.

  32. Hi Mel can you please tell me where I am going wrong? every time I cut out on my Brother Scan N Cut, I get scuffed corners, it seems ok doing straight lines. I have replaced the blade and I am having the same problem. The card I use is normal card purchased from Create and Craft, the settings are :- blade depth 6, pressure 0.

  33. Hi Mel, I finally gave in and bought a scan and cut including the pens and stamp kit, it's still in the box as I wanted to figure out how to use it. My problem being I find written instructions difficult to follow. Have you done any basic you tube tutorials ?

  35. Hi Mel, As ever, I always try to record your excellent programmes on Create and Craft, and have downloaded the first (back in December, I think) update to my CM300, but am wondering if I have to buy a new USB memory stick to download the latest updates. I can clear everything off the one I used, leaving it empty, and can re-format it so that it is like new again, but need to double check with you first that this is OK. I still think you are the best demonstrator ever, and can't wait to see you on C&C again, as there is always something new I learn. I now must buy the American Craft card, because some of the others I have tried have not been very successful! Thanks again for your great help - and have a Happy Easter (bet you have been busy and deserve a rest.)
