sugar gum paste for the Cricut cake

Hello crafters
I promised I would post the name of the company we got the pots of gum paste from. It is sugarshack. They call it Satin Ice.
Sarah said they are the cheapest she has found. Please give me feedback on this.
Take care

  1. Thank you for that! I've ordered some straight away. I bought my cake mini a year ago & after 5 failed attempts to get anything to cut properly, I gave up on it. I'll try again with this gum paste. Does Sarah have a blog??

  2. Hi Mel
    Loved all your shows.
I need some new mats for my E2 I saw C&C has them in stock
I was about to order then I read some feed back about
how Provo has altered the mats and I must say everyone
is saying they are awful and asking for Provo to read
the complaints and do something about it have you any
info or used the new ones? and do you think C&C have the new stock as they
have not sold any 12x12 for a long time.
    Regards
    Edith

  4. Hi,I loved the show yesterday!

I bought a cricut cake about a year ago but like so many I gave up as i could never get a good cut. Hopefully with your tips I will make friends with it again!

Is the gum paste a powder you make up or a packet? And approximately how thick did you roll it as I don't have the rolling pin with the spacer?

    1. Hi Sam
It comes in a tub. I would advise you to put a cd on either side of your rolling area. That way you will get it even.
Remember to pop it in the microwave for ten seconds first.
      Hope that helps

I have emailed The Sugarshack to ask which gum paste it is - could it be Satin Ice?

  6. Hi Mel, bought my first cricut cake mini on the idealworld show. i have been trying to find the gum paste you spoke about, I ended up emailing Sugarshack who directed me to the satin ice. What i would like to know do you colour the gumpaste with the food colouring or do you have to buy the gumpaste already coloured. The other thing i wanted to know was how edible is the gumpaste, does it go hard. Looking forward to the delivery of my machine. Thanks Linda xxx

    1. Hi Linda.
Sarah colours hers with gel colouring not liquid as this makes you gum paste to wet.
The gum paste does go hard but it is still edible.x

  7. Hi have found another site that sells the florist paste/ gum paste. Its cake decorating store, selling 220g bags of coloured and 100g of darker colours. Would this be similar to Sugarshack. Would love your comments on this Mel.xx

    1. The product from the Sugar Shack is Satin Ice. They may be able to tell you if it is the same. I will email Sarah and ask her as she knows more about icing than I do.

  8. Thanks Mel for all the information. I bought the cake Mini Last year but l just did not get to grips with it. After spending a year getting to know my Cricut machines. My Cricut Mini is just the best machine ever made and is there ready to be used 24/7 my poor Expression is feeling lost now lol.
So with this great offer from C&C l decided to get the Cricut cake and try again. Have ordered some Gum Paste from Sugar Shack and looking forward to playing. This time KEEPING IT SIMPLE!! and not expect a design that's flourished and has small cut out parts. 'KEEP IT SIMPLE S****D' as the saying goes.
Thanks for all your help and advise over the past 2 years its very much appreciated.
Have a wonderful holiday season and a great fun filled 2013 to one and all...

  11. Practicing with my Cricut Mini which I received last week. Had problems with paste and getting off the mat but after watching some posts on You tube if found a way to improve ordinary fondant icing by adding a small amount of tylose powder to make it more stable and then discovered if I used my trex to add a sheet of wax paper to my mat when I had cut my items I could just lift off the wax paper and allow the items to dry without touching them. Up to now has worked brilliantly, (not quite dry yet.

    2. Where did you buy the tylose? Did you put the wax paper on your mat then roll the fondant onto the mat and put through the machine. I have just bought mine and confused of best methods to use. look forward to your reply. Many thanks

    1. Hi Lynn
Yes, when I opened mine it had cake blades in as well. I guess that they just had the paper ones on the picture and on the counter, but they were indeed cake blades.
I can't get hold of anybody at the moment at C & C to ask about this. I am down here for New Year but the buying team are on holiday.
I will see what I can find out in the new year.
      Have a good one

  14. Hi Mel, having difficulty in using my cricut cake mini. I remember watching most of the shows but have forgotten most of it. I eventually got it to cut out a design, but could not work out how to remove it from mat without it breaking up. Do i have to leave it on mat until it dries completly. Would you and sarah consider making a DVD on how to use machine as O think there are many people out there like me. Thanks linda
