The winner of my first ever Blog Challenge!

Good afternoon Crafters!

After looking through all of the entries for my first ever blog challenge, there were some wonderful cards made. It was unbelievably hard for me to pick a winner as they were all so good! However, I've picked one and I'm very happy to say that the winner is LINDSEY WORTH with her beautiful creation! Below are the images of Lindsey's creation and a few words about herself.

I’m 17 and I live in Cornwall with my Mum and Dad (and Border Collie – Jed!). I’ve just finished my A levels in art and photography, which have liked in really well to crafting. I take lots of techniques, such as looking at composition and colour families and apply it to crafting. I started paper crafting properly about 6 years ago when my Auntie taught me some pergamano. I started off making cards but now I also enjoy making other projects, such as gifts, boxes and home decor.

I was inspired to make this card because I wanted to start cutting out all of the flowers in the paper and layering them up with the rub-ons. I decided on a limited colour palette because all of the different elements are quite detailed and I didn’t want it to look too overpowering. I love learning new techniques so this was a good opportunity to bring lots together in one project.

Flower Cluster photo: First I cut out some flower images from the paper pad and layered them up to create depth, then for the foreground I made some 3D flowers (also from the paper pad) because I wanted these to stand out. Some of them were made by cutting out 3 or 4 flower shapes and layering them up, then I added a round, glittered sticker for the centre. The other type of flower was made by first cutting a circle of paper (about 3 inches wide) and then cutting a spiral into it. This gives you a spring-like strand, which I folded in half all of the way around. I did this to make the flower a bit chunkier when it is finished, plus it means that all the raw edges will be hidden on the bottom. Then I rolled the strand up and glued it onto a circle of paper to make sure it would stay in one piece. With all the flowers I made sure to ink the edges before I stuck them to the card. I made the leaves by stamping the image onto some of the green glazed paper in the pad and heat embossing it in silver. The silver is a running theme in the card so I wanted it all to link together.

Heat Embossing: I did the silver heat embossing because I wanted the layers of paper to stand out against each other, but I didn’t want too many straight edges. I tore the paper first to match with the collage effect and then I inked the edges with black memento. After I poured on the embossing powder I made sure some of the black ink was still showing around the edges because it created a sort of burnt effect, which I liked.
Stamped Image: I stamped the fountain onto plain card so that it would stand out against all of the other various patterns and elements. I used memento again because I coloured it with promarkers. I didn’t add too much colour because I wanted it to be subtle, just adding some shading and using pastel tones.

Thanks to all that entered my first ever Blog Challenge :) Love Mel xxx
